Romeo and Juliet dancing and building to their ultimate kiss and just as they gaze into each other's eyes and lean in to finally touch lips, Josephine says, "Look at their shoes!" Way to wreck romance! LOL Love this style of commentary and explanation of what the characters are doing. I've never been to these ballets before, so having them explained is wonderful!

Okg I absolutely love Romeo and Juliet both the Shakespeare version and the ballet version. I've always wanted to be in the ballet version but yet to have the chance. I don't care if I'm just a background character because I absolutely love the story it tells. I really want to do Giselle so bad but the studio Im at isn't big enough to do the bigger ballets.

Yes, people can die from a broken heart. It’s called broken heart syndrome or the medical terminology is Takotsubo cardiomyopathy. It is usually a temporary condition but people do die from it.

I HATE how they changed her death. Giselle is supposed to stab herself. Now that being said, the school I take Adult Ballet at is doing Giselle (and there is drama). I dislike this story the way I dislike Romeo and Juliet; it's not romantic but tragic (and they're stupid). My rewrite in my head involves Giselle being killed by the Prince to save his inheritance, then the second part all goes the same, but in their duet, she pushes him off the cliff herself.

Tbf, it's established in Giselle Act 1 that Giselle is sick and frail and it's a big deal for her to dance because it exerts her too much (her mother tries to stop her from dancing with the others at first.) I just always interpreted her death as being a result of whatever mystery illness she has. And I agree with you that the prince is easily my least favorite part of Giselle, lol. I think Carlos Acosta has a convincing interpretation in that he plays it as the prince being a playboy who is just using Giselle at the beginning but is genuinely regretful after he sees how much damage he's done to her. I don't really buy interpretations that try to sell that he's genuinely in love with her.

Amazing video. Just one thing. Giselle doesn't die of a broken heart. She has a heart condition, thats reffered to several times in the ballet (most explicitely in the waltz and the mise en scene with her mother where we first learn of the Willis, who were women who died before their wedding night)... She starts passing out at first during the waltz because of too much exhertion... most likely she had some sort of heart condition, which got aggravated and she got a heart attack, with the whole shock during the finale of the first act.... although dying of a broken heart is a thing, a lot of the times reported with older couples, who ve been together for a long time. And then after the first one dies, the other one follows in the soan of the next two years, where their condition just gets worse and worse...
